ORIGINAL POST: Trying to get a wiggly baby all changed and diapered can be quite a struggle. Here are some tips to help make diapering a somewhat enjoyable experience.
Diapering
A safe place to change your little one is important. They can squirm right off any elevated surface, even it is a belted changing table, so always keep a hand on your baby. You can put some kind of mobile above the changing table to keep them distracted. Most bassinet, play pin combinations come with a changing table option.
When I change my little ones, we make sure that we have a changing pad, diapers, wipes and everything else we might need with us. This way, we never leave our baby unattended with our toddlers jumping over them.
As you change diapers, it's best to have all your items in your arms reach, not the babies reach.
Checklist:
-Diapers
-Wipes
-Some type of disposable bag for the dirty diaper
-Cream for the bottom (we prefer vaseline)
How to Change a Diaper Step By Step
Here are my diapering tips, one step at a time.
1.Wash your hands.
2.Put some type of pad underneath the baby.
3.Undo the tapes/pins of the diaper.
4.See what the diaper is holding or not holding. You want to make sure you have enough wipes to clean up.
5.If the baby had a bowel movement, use the fron-inside part of the diaper to wipe the bottom of the baby towards the back of the diaper. Then fold the front part over the back, making sure that the bowel movement is on thee inside of the diaper so that the baby's bottom rests on the outside of the front of the diaper.
6.Now, clean the diaper area, making sure to clean all the folds and moving the mess towards the baby's bottom. Make sure you wipe the babies bottom thoroughly, especially for girls as to prevent urinary tract infections (UTI's).
7.With one hand hold the babies two ankles together and gently lift them up, wipe all the mess off the babies bottom and don't forget the cracks too.
8.Apply any creams or ointments in the needed areas (Especially where there is redness or rash)
9.Now gently lift the babies ankles again in one hand while sliding the new fresh diaper under the babies bottom, tape straps facing towards the babies back.
10.Then, fold the diaper around the babies waist and fasten the straps/pins.
11.Check and make sure that the diaper covers the baby's behind fully and isn't too tight on the legs or stomach area. Make sure the edges of the diaper haven't been tucked under.
12.Dispose of the soiled diaper and wash your hands.
