The number one rule is to stay calm. Even if you have the lay the baby down for 5 minutes and take a breather. Once you are calm, you can begin again to attempt to stop the crying. Remember baby usually cries when they need something, so check the obvious, wet or dirty diaper? Is your baby Hungry? Is your baby in pain? Does your baby have a fever, or feeling sick? Is your baby tired? If none of these things seem to be troubling your baby try:

1.Swaddling: Swaddle your baby tightly and hold him close. Babies are used to being snug from the time they spent in the womb. This position can be very comforting to you.

2. Sucking: It doesn't matter if it is nursing your baby, using a pacifier, or your pinky finger sucking is a natural soothing motion for a baby.

3. Movement: Rock your baby, walk around with your baby (you might even try going outside briefly) babies are used to constant motion from the womb and rocking to the motion of their mothers body.

4. Sing: sing to your baby. They know your voice and are calmed by hearing you sing, or if you want turn on some soft music. Try using the same song, babies will become accustomed to hear a certain melody and it will have a soothing affect on them. And if you really dont want to sing try ryhming to the in a sing-song voice.

5. The "Shush" noise. Babies are used to "white noise" from the womb. Try making the shhhhh sound with the rhythmic pattern of a heart beat or any beat.

Dont become overly frustrated and just keep trying. If you baby seems to be in pain, contact your doctor.
